Abstract

715,832. Granulating ores &c. COMPAGNIE DES METAUX D'OVERPELT-LOMMEL ET DE CORPHALIE, SOC. ANON. Nov. 14, 1951, No. 26642/51 Class 82 (1) In the granulation of moistened sulphide ore or like sulphide material containing zinc sulphate and/or oxysulphate as a binder, the granulation is effected at a temperature between 70‹ C. and about 100‹C., the grains then being cooled to about room temperature As shown, finely divided blende mixed with sulphated blende in dust form. and containing about 2 per cent sulphur in the form of sulphate, is conveyed by a measuring band 20 from a hopper 1 to a rotating drum 2 which is heated to about 100‹C. The mixture and 4-7 per cent. of boiling water from a boiler 22 is stirred by blades 8 in a mixer 3 with a steam jacket 4, and is forced by blades 11 through sieves 7 in a vacuum chamber 5. The grains so formed fall into a conveyer 12 on which they begin to harden, and then pass to a hopper 13 from which they are periodically withdrawn into a second hopper 14. A small amount of air enters through needle valve 19 and carries water vapour to the vacuum pump pipe 6. From hopper 14 the grains fall on to a perforated conveyer 15 with a wind box 16. the cold air from which completes the cooling.
