715,494. Picking motions. COMPTOIR LINIER, and LATIEULE, Y. Jan. 2, 1952 [Jan. 25, 1951], No. 166/52. Class 142(2) A shuttle, more especially for circular looms, is picked electromagnetically. An electromagnet having poles 7, 8 of circular section connected by a core 9 around, which a magnetizing coil 12 is wound, is mounted rotatably on a moving arm together with a supporting member comprising rollers 14, 15 of magnetic metal connected by a shaft 13. A shuttle M of circular section is held by the electromagnet against its poles 7, 8 and the rollers 14 15, with a sheet of warp threads interposed. As the arm is displaced the magnet 'and the supporting member are rotated by means of a pinion 17 on a rotating shaft 16 meshing with pinions 18, 19 connected to the magnet and the supporting member respectively, thus facilitating the passage of the warp threads between the shuttle and the propulsion unit. Coil 12 may be either fixed to the core 9 or mounted rotatably about it. A supporting member may be mounted on either side of the magnet. In one embodiment the electromagnet is in the form of a truncated core.
