Abstract

715,161. Centrifugal separators. UNIPULVER, Ltd., and CLARK, G. May 4, 1953 [May 3. 1952], No. 11247/52. Class 23 A dust separator comprises a first tube 5 the walls of which are divergent to form a maximum cross-sectional area at one end, a second tube 8 of cross-sectional area less than the maximum cross-sectional area of the first tube and one end of which is disposed inside the end of maximum cross-section of the first tube, means for adjusting the distance between the tubes, and means for passing through the first tube in the direction of the second tube a vortex of gas to be cleaned. As shown the tube 5 is connected to the gas outlet tube 1 of a cyclone 2 so that the vortex of gas to be cleaned contains fine particles only. The separation is controlled by axial adjustment of the tube 8 which is held in position by screws 10, or by axial adjustment of a valve member 11 in the outlet of the tube 8. The fine dust particles collect in a helical collector 6 which may be connected to the inlet 3 of the cyclone or to the inlets of further small cyclones,
