Abstract
714,947. Magnetic recording apparatus. ARMOUR RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY. Feb. 19, 1952, No. 4359/52. Class 40 (2). A magnetic transducer comprises . a frameshaped support member 13 with an opening 23 therein, across which the legs 15, 16 of the magnetic core are secured by clamps 21, 22, the said legs 15, 16 extending beyond the support member 13 to form non-magnetic gaps 19, 29. The pole faces of the magnetic core are made concave to conform with a support member 27. In the first embodiment, Figs. 1 and 4, the tip of the leg 15 of the core incorporates the erazing head and has a slotted opening 28 forming limbs on which series connected coils 30, 32 are wound carrying the high frequency erazing current. The coil 32 serves also to produce a high-frequency biasing flux across the recording gap 19. The limbs 15, 16 of the core carry record/reproduce winding 11. The ends 25 of clamps 21, 22, holding the core members 14, 15, 16 in overlapping arrangement on the support member 13, are inserted through slots 24 therein and then bent over. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5, the core has three limbs 38, 39, 40, the limbs 39, 38 carrying the erazing and biasing coils 48, 63, respectively, and the limb 40 carrying the record/ reproduce coil 49.
