Abstract
709,655. Magnetometers. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Oct. 22, 1951, [Dec. 29, 1950.] No. 24566/51. Class 37. A magnetometer,. particularly adapted to indicating the intensity of magnetization of a small area on a tape T, Fig. 1, comprises a core J, H, F having a gap G in which the area under test is located, the reluctance of the core being varied by A.C. applied to windings YZ, on a second core broken at GT to receive portion H of the first core. The output in windings XW is fed through an appropriate filter to pass induced voltages of twice the frequency of that supplying coils Y, Z, whose amplitudes are proportional to the field at G due to the tape T. In a modification, Fig. 2, the tape is placed at the gap G and the windings AB are fed with A.C. to vary the reluctance of the magnetic circuit including limbs L, M and thus produce in coils CD voltages of doubled frequency and whose amplitude is related to the field at G.
