947,773. Magnetic recording &c. heads. ARMOUR RESEARCH FOUNDATION OF ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY. May 27, 1960, No. 18857/60. Heading G5R. An external coil head has means to render the magnetic circuit of high reluctance. Coils 13, 14 linking the core 10 may be short-circuited or connected to low-impedance frequency correcting networks (Figs. 2A, 2B not shown) or alternatively, the core assembly 30 may be enveloped in copper, forming a short-circuited turn. A ferrous member 50 may help to concentrate the field in the region of the coil and the coil may envelope the core on three sides, Fig. 1. The coil may be mounted on a hinged member (Fig. 4 not shown) to permit record loading and a volume-control adjustment.
