Abstract
1,105,535. Magnetic heads. SIEMENS A.G. 18 Aug., 1965 [18 Aug., 1964], No. 35335/65. Heading G5R. In a system for storing digital data on a magnetic tape, stray coupling between a recording head 14 comprising C and I cores 17, 18 and a following monitor pick up head 15 comprising C and I cores 19, 20 is neutralized by the provision of a plate 22 of magnetic material which couples the I core of the recording head to both cores of the pick up head. Because of the greater proximity of the pick up head I core to the recording head, stray flux takes an anti-clockwise path through the pick up head cores and this flux is cancelled by a clockwise flux developed as a result of the greater coupling between the plate 22 and the C core 19 than that between the plate and the I core 20. The heads are separated by screen 21 of copper and mu-metal plates and the eddy currents developed in the copper plates and in the conducting plates 23, 24 assist in confining the stray field and increasing the rise time of the data pulses supplied to the recording head.
