975,723. Feeding record tapes. SIEMENS & HALSKE A. G. July 12, 1963, No. 27653/63. Heading G5R. A vacuum anti-inertia tape-loop box 1, forming part of a tape-feed system, has, in place of the usual slot, a groove 2 with a number of holes 4 communicating with the usual transfer windway 8, the holes being non-linearly spaced such that the area per unit length of the box increases from a minimum at the centre to a maximum some four times the minimum at the two ends. The construction is stated to reduce vacuum wastage and to compensate for loss of sensitivity of the system at the limiting positions of the tapeloop 5. The minimum spacing of the holes is desirably 20 mm for a box length of 1 metre. The same principle is stated also to be applicable to pneumatically-operated control means of the self-balancing type in general normally using an air-slot, but there is no disclosure of a specific embodiment.
