Abstract
714,654. Mixing appliances. CHAIN BELT CO. July 21. 1952 [Aug. 3, 1951], No. 18384/52. Class 86 In a mobile concrete mixer wherein a truck carries an upwardly and rearwardly inclined rotary mixing drum the driving mechanism for the drum is mounted on the truck beneath the elevated discharge end and acts on that end to rotate the drum, thereby permitting the forward end of the drum to be disposed forwardly of all the rear wheels and in close proximity to the driver's cab. In Fig. 1 a conical mixing drum 10 is supported by a trunnion 17 and two rollers 22 for rotation about its axis 12, and has a closed end formed by a dome-like head 15 which is disposed close to the back of the cab C and has an open end 16 disposed above and in vertical alignment with the rear edge of the rear pair of wheels R.. The driving mechanism includes a separate engine 45 which operates on the drum through a reversing gear 46 and a driving chain passing around a ring-type sprocket which encircles the drum just forwardly of the rollers 22. A water tank 38 is supported by the mixer frame to overhang the cab C. The drum is Charged through a hopper 28. Helical mixing blades 53, Fig. 4 (not shown) which are secured on the inner surface of the drum, assist in discharging the material when the drum is driven in a reverse direction, the discharged .material being received by a hopper 29 and fed into a movable shoot 30, Fig. 3, swingable about a pivot 31.
