Abstract
714,653. Extruding. COMPTOIR INDUSTRIEL D'ETIRAGE ET PROFILAGE DE METAUX. July 16, 1952 [Aug. 22, 1951], No. 18028/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 83 (4). In an extrusion process on highly valuable metal, a wafer of a less-valuable metal is placed at the rear of the billet to reduce the amount of billet metal in the discard. The wafer may be welded to the billet, or separate therefrom and heated to a temperature below that of the billet, and may decrease in thickness from the edge to the centre. Any lubricant may be used and the discard is severed from the extrusion after the die and die-holder have been removed from the container. In extruding stainless steel tubes, the wafer is a soft steel annulus.
