<PICT:0714435/IV(c)/1> <PICT:0714435/IV(c)/2> In an apparatus for the liquid treatment of packages of yarn or thread in which the packages are mounted on hollow perforated spindles through which the treatment liquor is passed, a cover mounted on the spindle bears on the upper end of the package and is held in place by a locking member which is mounted in rocking relation to the cover and wedges the spindle to prevent its upward movement. Figs. 1 and 2 show a package-treatment apparatus in which yarn packages 3 are mounted on a hollow perforated spindle 1 the inside surface of the yarn being supported by a spring 5 covered externally by a stocking 6 of open weave material. The package is held in place by a cover plate 7 which has a central opening 8 and a locating boss 9 the underface of which bears on the top surface of the package 3. A locking member comprises a ring 13 which is loosely mounted round the spindle 10 and is disposed in a housing 11 so as to hinge about an opening 16 whilst finger 15 is movable in a slot 18. When during treatment the packages 3 shrink the fastening will adjust itself to the decreased length of the package but any tendency of the fastening to move upwards, e.g. under pressure of the treatment liquor is prevented by the locking ring 13 wedging against spindle 10. When treatment is completed an upward flick of the finger 15 will release the fastening.
