A support 37 adapted to receive and be moved by the weight of the delivery end 33 of a hose 2 is associated with a valve 12 which effects operation of a compressed-air motor for rewinding the hose onto a reel 1 and, for example comprising a cylinder 3 in which works a piston 4 connected to a rack 5 meshing with a pinion 6 secured to the spindle of the reel. The valve 12 may be biased by a spring 13 onto an an nular seat 11 in a body part 9 and unseated by the stem 18 of an exhaust valve 17 urged away from the valve 12 by a spring 19 tc uncover an exhaust port 20. A branch 14 is connected to the cylinder inlet 15. The valve 17 is engaged by an arm 21 of a lever 22 the other arm 26 of which is engageable by an arm 28 of a bell-crank lever 29 pivoted on a plunger 27 urged away from the lever 22 by a spring 32 and provided with a bore 43 for the reception of a spring-loaded plunger 42 upon the head 41 of which bears an arm 40 of the support 37. The other arm 48 of the lever 29 is engaged by a plunger 47 connected to a port 46 in the cylinder 3. The arm 28 is swung by a spring 31 into a position whereby the arm forms an aligned extension of the plunger 27. In operation, and to retract the hose 2, the end 33 of the hose is applied to the support 37 which pivots and loads the spring 44 of the plunger 41 to urge the arm 28 against the arm 26 of the lever 22 which rocks about a pivot 23 and contacts the valve 17. Movement of the arm 21 is limited by a stop 60 on the body 9, and the valve 17 is moved to close the port 20 and open the valve 12 so that compressed air passes from the inlet 7 via the branch 14 to the cylinder to cause rewinding of the hose. Towards the end of its stroke the piston 4 uncovers the port 46 and compressed air passes to the plunger 47 which is moved to contact the arm 48 of the lever 29 to rotate and disengage the lever from the arm 26 of the lever 22 which is rocked about a pivot 23 by a spring 24 so that the valve 12 closes when the valve 17 opens the port 20 to exhaust the cylinder 3. When the end 33 of the hose 2 is lifted clear of the support 37 the spring 32 moves the plunger 27 and allows the plunger and arm 28 to become aligned. Specification 670,717 is referred to.
