Abstract
714,381. Metal heating furnaces. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. June 18, 1952 [Jan. 11, 1952], No. 15380/52. Class 51 (2) In a continuous metal heating furnace having an upper heating zone A above the skids 17 and hearth 18 and a lower heating zone B below the skids 17, a row of main top burners 22 and a row of smaller auxiliary burners 23 are disposed in the exit end wall 15, and a row of main bottom burners 24 are disposed in the lower exit end wall 16. Products of combustion pass out of the furnace through flues 25 in the roof near the entry end wall 14 into a recuperator 26 and conventional automatic temperature controls are installed where indicated at X. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the hearth slopes down to a door in the exit end wall.
