Abstract

714,288 Poultry batteries. SHEPHERD & SONS, Ltd., J., and SHEPHERD, R. Feb. 13, 1953 [Feb. 22, 1952], No. 4684/52. Class 5 (2) A scraper-unit for cleaning the droppings trays 17 of a poultry battery comprises a frame 10 guided along rails 19 adjacent to the trays and below the line of cages, the frame 10 carrying a sub-frame 15 on which are mounted scraper elements 21 23, the sub-frame being spring - loaded downwardly so that the scraper-elements contact the trays as the unit travels along. The main frame is rectangular and comprises cross-members 13, 14 interconnecting longitudinals 11, 12 on the ends of which are leather wipers 20 to clean the guide-rails 19. The sub-frame is cruciform and comprises leading members 24 carrying knives 21 and following members 26 carrying wipers 23. The sub-frame is suspended from a longitudinal member 29 of the main frame by springs 30 which urge the sub-frame into contact with the droppings trays 17, the downward movement being limited by lugs 33 on the main-frame longitudinals 11, 12.
