Abstract
713,983. Positive clutches. SPERRY CORPORATION. March 14, 1952 [March 26, 1951], No. 6661/52. Class 80 (2) An electromagnetic clutch, particularly for servomotor drives in aircraft, comprises a solenoid 52, secured within a gear 48 driven by a pinion 50 and fixed to a shaft 26, and a disc armature 28 adjustably secured in a ring 30 secured at its periphery by a clamp ring 36 and rivets 42 to a spring disc 34 secured at its centre to the driven hollow shaft 22 journalled on the shaft 26, teeth 32 on the ring 30 being engaged with teeth 46 on the gear 48 when the solenoid is energised. The disc 34, through which the drive passes, normally holds the teeth 32, 46 disengaged. The armature 28 is secured in its adjusted position in ring 30 by screws 44. A switch 70 in an external circuit is opened (or closed) as the clutch engages by means of pins 64 and radial fingers 63.
