Abstract
920,703. Electric time switches. AUTOMATIC TIMING & CONTROLS Inc. March 24, 1959, No. 10181/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXIV] An electric timer has a motor driven continuously rotating friction clutch disc driving a radial finger between two stops, the one on to which the finger is driven having switch contacts that open circuit a solenoid to disengage the clutch, thus allowing the finger to be returned by a spiral spring to engage the other stop. The timer is then ready to complete another cycle on energization of the solenoid. An electric motor (not shown) drives a shaft 21 geared to clutch disc 25 carrying a resilient ring 27. A projecting portion 30 of the radial finger 19 engages this ring when the solenoid 80 is energized to compress a spring 36 by a clevis 41 and link 90 and thus to move the finger to the right. When the switch is opened by the finger impinging on the forward stop the solenoid is deenergized as described above and the finger is driven back by a spring 32 to a back stop 71, set for the appropriate time interval by a knob 53. The timer is secured to a panel 115 by compression screws 113 acting on a flange 111 of the timer case. The latter is dustproof due to gaskets 181, 110, 112 and has a cover 44 with a transparent graduated portion through which the settable stop 71 can be seen and the operating interval thus determined.
