Abstract

713,956. Securing arms on shafts. MAGNATEX, Ltd. Aug. 8, 1952 [Aug. 8, 1951], No. 18688/51. Class 80 (2) The head 3 of a windscreen-wiper arm is secured on the splined end 17 of a driving spindle by means of an externally-coned and internaly-splined split collet 10 which is contracted on to the end 17 by a nut 14 screwed into the head 3. As shown in Fig. 1, the conical surface of the collet engages a conical part of the aperture in the head 3 and is interconnected axially with the nut 14 while permitting relaytive angular movement. Alternatively, the nut may be screwed into the rear of the head 3, As shown in Fig. 4, the collet 10 is non-rotatable in the head aperture and its conical surface engages the internally-coned surface of the nut 14. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the collet is split into a number of separate sheet-metal keys 310, each forming a spline at its inner edge while its outer tapered edge engages a keyway 322 in the tapered aperture of the head 3. The several keys are interconnected by a spring- wire loop 323. The collet may be of zinc base diecasting metal and formed by diecasting, the metal being thus so deformable that its splines can conform correctly with those on the end 17, even when the latter is worn.
