Abstract

713,092. Covers for inspection &c. openings. K.A.C., Ltd. Oct. 8, 1952 [Oct. 12, 1951 ; Oct. 31, 1951], Nos. 23813/51 and 25478/51. Class 107 A cover panel 'or an access opening in aircra't or other vehicles or apparatus has a handhole therein for easy removal. The hand hole is closed by a cover that is moved bodily inward to release the latch means retaining the main cover in position. Before the hand-hole cover can be dsp'aced bodily inwards it must be given a pre'iminary movement in another direction to release the catch holding it in place. In one embodiment the hand-hole cover 14 is pivoted about the axis 13 in the direction of the arrow A to cause the abutting face 27 of a catch projection 26 to disengage from the keeps 28 fastened to the main cover 5. When this is done the hand-hole cover can be moved bodily inward on the arm 12 and it displaces the lever arm 9. This latter has one end 7 forming a latch which engages behind the flange 4 of the access opening to prevent the main cover from being removed until the hand-ho'e cover is displaced. The lost motion due to pin 18 working in slot 17 allows the main cover to be replaced even when the hand-hole cover is in its closed position. Springs (not shown) urge the hand-hole cover closed and stronger springs force the main cover open when the latch 7 is re!eased. The access cover may be hinged to the main body of the aircraft. In another embodiment (not shown) the pins (13) in which the hand-hole cover (14) is pivoted have a flat formed on them and co-operate with bayonet slots. A pivotal movement o' this cover will release it for bodily inward motion.
