Abstract

The invention comprises 1-chloro-6-fluoro-anthraquinone or a mixture thereof with 1-chloro - 7 - fluoroanthraquinone, which are made by sulphonating 2-fluoroanthraquinone in presence of a mercury salt, and treating with an alkali chlorate either the resulting mixture of 6- and 7-fluoro-anthraquinone sulphonic acids or the 6-fluoro-anthraquinone-1-sulphonic acid separated therefrom. Examples describe the sulphonation with oleum of 2-fluoroanthraquinone in presence of mercury sulphate, separation of the 6-fluoro-anthraquinone sulphonic acid and reaction thereof with sodium chlorate solution, and also reaction of sodium chlorate solution with the mixture of 6- and 7-fluoro-anthraquinone sulphonic acids.
