Abstract

An emulsion of reclaimed natural rubber comprises an amount of ammonia at least equivalent to 5 per cent. and preferably at least 25 per cent by weight of the reclaim rubber, of aqueous ammonia or specific gravity 0.880. Natural rubber latex and a synthetic rubbery polymer or copolymer, each in an amount of at least 5 per cent. of the weight of the reclaimed rubber may also be added. Rubber solvents such as petroleum ether, white spirit, or trichlorethylene may be added to reduce thickness and produce smoother emulsions. In preferred compositions the mixture consists of reclaim rubber 9 parts by weight, ammonia (0.880) 2-4 parts, petroleum ether or white spirit 2-3 parts. synthetic rubber polymer 0-1 part, and natural rubber latex 1 part.
