March 13, 1952 [March 21, 1951; March 29, 1951; Nov. 10, 1951], No. 6503/52. Class 34(2). In a process for drying textile material in the form of yarn in packages or on crosswound bobbins, a gas is passed continuously through a blower G, a heater H and the material T in a container K whilst the gas in the circuit is subjected to a static pressure considerably greater than atmospheric by connecting the circuit to a source of gas under super-atmospheric pressure, liquid being extracted from the gas by a condenser J. The bobbins are mounted on a suitable carrier M in the container K which. has an outer wall U, spaced from an inner perforated wall surrounding, the material, and orifices B leading to the interior and C in the outer wall U so that the air or other gas enters by one orifice and leaves by the other, a reversing valve X enabling the direction of flow to be reversed at will. The condenser J has an inlet valve for the admission of compressed air and an exhaust valve V may be connected to a pump to reduce the pressure in the circuit. Cooling water enters at L and leaves at W condensate being passed via a valve E to a receptacle N. By closing a valve Q and opening valves A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>11</SP> air may be drawn through the circuit once and discharged to atmosphere.
