Abstract
712,197. Microscopes. HANDLER, A., and VOCKENHUBER, K., [trading as EUMIG ELEKTRIZITATSUND METALLWARENINDUSTRIE], Nov. 13, 1951 [Nov. 15, 1950; July 11, 1951], No. 26598/51. Class 97(1) In a microscope having fine and coarse adjustment means, the parts which are to be manually operated to effect the fine adjustment of the support carrying the optical system or of the microscope stage are accommodated in the base plate of the microscope. The microscope shown in Fig. 1 has a base plate 1 supporting a stand 3 for the optical system 4. The microscope stage 5 is secured to a carriage 6 dovetailed to a carriage 6a slidable in a vertical guide on the stand. A drive disc 10 in the base 1 serves for fine adjustment, this disc being connected to a screw 11 which threads through a nut 12 fixed to the base plate and engages at 13 the base of the carriage 6a. Coarse adjustment is provided by a disc K which co-operates with carriage 6. In an alternative form, the carriage 6a may be fixed to the base plate and the screw 11 may engage the base of the stand 3 and move it vertically. The drive disc 10 may protrude from the base plate or may be engaged by pinions having manually operable knobs. Stand 3 may accommodate a light source from which a beam passes through an aperture in carriage 6a on to the usual microscope mirror. As shown in Fig. 12, the microscope stage 5 is supported by a carriage 42 which is moved vertically by a pin 43a on a nut 43 threaded on a screwed spindle 40, mounted in the stand 3, when a disc 41 in the base plate 1 is rotated, A knob may be provided at the opposite end of the spindle 40 for coarse adjustment. In the form shown in Fig. 18, the disc 41 and spindle 40 provide a coarse adjustment, a fine adjustment being provided by a disc 51 having a short spindle 49 threaded into a nut 50. When disc 51 is rotated, the spindle 40 is moved vertically.
