Abstract
<PICT:0711883/IV(c)/1> <PICT:0711883/IV(c)/2> <PICT:0711883/IV(c)/3> <PICT:0711883/IV(c)/4> In a system in which a gas stream carrying fibres passes along a conduit, fins extend inwardly to direct the fibres towards the centre of the conduit and a finely divided spray is applied in the direction of movement of the gas. Fins 26, . . . 29, Figs. 2 and 4 are mounted in the walls of the conduit 20, a further fin 30 supporting a pipe 70 feeding the spray nozzle 71. In order to reduce turbulence and assist the direction of the fibres towards the axis a further set of fins 34 may be employed and bumper rods 38. The leading edges 35 of the fins are inclined to the conduit walls at an angle less than 45 degrees and are provided with a bead or rod-like edge to prevent fibres catching on the edges. The fins are mounted in slits in the conduit walls. Liquid from reservoir 56 is fed by pump 62 to a box 68, Fig. 10 and passes through bores 72, 73 and along pipe 75 to the nozzle 71, Fig. 11. Compressed air or gas is passed through pipe 81 to box 68 and through bore 74 and outer pipe 70 to the nozzle. Where the liquid is an adhesive substance, a non-adhesive liquid from container 87 may pass from pan 89 through nipple 97 to bore 73, when the supply of the spraying liquid is cut off, to prevent clogging of the pipes and spray nozzle. A solenoid-operated valve 66 is closed when no fibres are being supplied to the feed table. Specification 702,064 is referred to.
