Abstract

Synthetic linear polyamide or polyurethane structures, e.g flake, are dyed by treatment with aqueous solutions or dispersions of complex metal compounds of hydroxynitroso compounds which are free from sulphonic acid groups and which contain complex forming groups on adjacent carbon atoms. Suitable hydroxynitroso compounds, which may be present in the form of thin tautomeric 0-quinone monoximes or 1:2-isonitrosoketones are the nitrozation products of mono- or polyhydroxy derivatives of isocyclic or heterocyclic compounds, such as 1-nitroso-2-hydroxy-naphthalene, 2 - nitroso - 1 - hydroxynaphthalene, 1 - nitroso - 2:6 - dihydroxy - naphthalene, 1 - nitroso - 2:7 - dihydroxynaphthalene, 1 - nitroso2 - hydroxy - naphthalene - 6 - sulphonamide, 1:3 - dinitroso - 2:4 - dihydroxybenzene, 3 - nitroso - 2:4 - dihydroxyquinoline, 1 - phenyl nitroso - 2:4 - dihydroxyquinoline, 1 - phenyl - 3 - methyl - 4 - nitroso - pyrazolone - (5) and 9 - nitroso - 10 - hydroxyphenanthrene, and also the nitrozation products of aliphatic 1:3 - dicarbonyl compounds or mono-oximes of 1:2 - diketones, e.g. nitroso-aceto-acetic acid anilide and nitroso-acetyl acetone. Specified complex forming metals are Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cd and Mo. Examples are given.ALSO:Synthetic linear polyamide or polyurethane fabrics, fibres, bands, flake and other structures are dyed by treatment with aqueous solutions or dispersions of complex metal compounds of hydroxynitroso compounds which are free from sulphonic acid groups and which contain complex forming groups on adjacent carbon atoms. Suitable hydroxynitroso compounds, which may be present in the form of their tautomeric o-quinone monoximes or 1 : 2-iso-nitroso ketones are the nitrosation products of mono- or poly-hydroxy derivatives of isocyclic or heterocyclic compounds, such as, 1-nitroso-2-hydroxy-naphthalene, 2-nitroso-1-hydroxynaphthalene, 1 - nitroso - 2 : 6 - dihydroxynaphthalene, 1 - nitroso - 2 : 7 - dihydroxynaphthalene, 1-nitroso-2-hydroxynaphthalene-6-sulphonamide, 1:3-dinitroso-2:4-dihydroxybenzene, 3-nitroso - 2 : 4 - dihydroxyquinoline, 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-nitroso-pyrazolone-(5) and 9-nitroso-10-hydroxyphenanthrene, and also the nitrosation products of aliphatic 1 : 3-dicarbonyl compounds or mono-oximes of 1 : 2-diketones, e.g., nitroso-aceto-acetic acid anilide and nitroso-acetyl acetone. Specified complex-forming metals are Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cd and Mo. Dispersing agents, e.g., formaldehyde-naphthalene-2-sulphonic acid condensation product or octadecyl alcohol-ethylene oxide reaction product may be added to the solution or dispersion. Dyeing may be effected in the alkaline, neutral or acid region and the pH may be varied during treatment. Examples are given.
