Abstract
711,298. Plug closures for hand-holes &c. LAURENT, M. P. Nov. 14, 1951, No. 26684/51. Class 123(1) [Also in Group XXVI] A closure for a pressure vessel 1 having a tapered hand or man-hole 2 comprises a plug 3, which has a maximum diameter less than the minimum diameter of the hole 2 and an outer surface 4 of lesser taper than that of the hole, and an interposed' distortable hard metal sealing ring 7 having its outer and inner surfaces tapered to correspond to said hole and plug respectively. The plug 3 is retained in place, with an end flange 6 thereof in contact with the ring 7, but a nut 11 which is screw-threaded on a stem 8 projecting outwardly from the plug to bear on a capmember 10, the latter extending over the hole 2 and being provided with a marginal flange 12 to engage an axial projection 13 therearound.
