Abstract
711,016. Holders for thermionic valves. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Sept. 1, 1952, [Sept. 21, 1951.] No. 21971/52. Class 38(1). A valve-holder comprising an insulating body 12, Fig. 2, carrying circularly-arranged socket contacts 24 is mounted in an aperture 21 in an insulating-panel 16 and the contacts simultaneously connected to conductors 18 printed on the panel, by means of spring extensions 26 of the contacts. The extensions have V-shaped portions 60 which snap over the edge of aperture 21 into engagement with-the conductors 18 as a portion 22 of body 12 is passed therethrough, a lip 48 on the body being drawn into engagement with the opposite side of the panel. The extensions 26 are dip-soldered to the conductors 18. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the body 79 has a flat, apertured cover 80 riveted to it and holding contacts 75 in recesses in the body. The contacts each comprise a flat portion 68, Fig. 6, apertured to receive a pin which is gripped between depending wings 67. An extension 78 has a V-shaped cut-out portion 77 which functions as the springs 26 in Fig. 2. In both the above embodiments, a key on the body locates it correctly with respect to the panel, the key in Fig. 5 carrying a spring extension of a screening contact. Fig. 7 shows a modified contact comprising a socket portion 99 with a planar spring extension bent to form a V-portion 98.
