Abstract
710,963. Aircraft landing places. WALLGREN, A. G. F. Sept. 19, 1951 [Sept. 21, 1950; Sept. 21, 1950], No. 21952/51. Class 4 An aircraft landing place located on the ground having liquid containing basins disposed in the runway or runways for braking the movement of an aircraft on the latter passing intc and along said basin, includes a reservoir tank located adjacent one or more basins, conduits providing communication between the tank and the basin or basins and a pump in said conduits adapted to supply liquid from the tank to the respective basin or from the latter to the tank in order to adjust the level of liquid in said basin or basins according to the size of a landing aircraft. A runway 10 terminates in a water basin 12 having a width greater than the runway. A reservoir 20 is located adjacent the basin to which it is connected by pipes 30, 32 and motor-driven pumps 22 which control the depth of water in the basin by pumping water into or out of the reservoir. The pumping system, which is below ground level, and the reservoir may be covered by an insulated roof or the reservoir may be sealed and pressurized. In order to improve the braking effect of the basin a layer of liquid, such as oil, having a higher viscosity than water may be provided in which case the pumping system is arranged to ensure that such liquid is not pumped into the reservoir. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 637,842.
