Abstract

710,422. Electric irons. MORPHYRICHARDS, Ltd. Aug. 13, 1952 [Aug. 13, 1951], No. 19013/51. Class 39 (3) A method of securing an electric heating element to the sole plate 5 of an iron comprises securing, e.g. by welding, a deformable clamping member 7, e.g. of sheet metal, at opposite sides to the top of the plate 5, an intermediate part of the member 7 being spaced above the plate 5, inserting the element in the tunnel so formed, and then deforming the intermediate part to clamp the element against the plate. There are two members 7, each following the contours of one side of the plate 5, and each member has side flanges provided with lugs 8 which are the parts welded to the plate 5, openings being thus left in the sides of the tunnel. Two elements are inserted, one above the other, in each tunnel, with insulating material between them, and each element is connected in series, after insertion, to the corresponding element in the other tunnel, and the elements in one of the tunnels are connected together. Suitable insulation 13, 16 is provided.
