Abstract

710,125. Window frames. WILLIAMS (CHESTER), Ltd., A. H. Aug. 29, 1952 [Sept. 6, 1951], No. 21098/51. Class 20 (3) A double glazed metal window frame includes T joints between members comprising a main rib 1 with a pair of glass-supporting flanges 2 projecting from one or both sides, the joints being secured by a tongue or tongues 4 at an end of one such member being passed through and bent over a corresponding slot or slots 6 in the main rib of another member. For a cross or double T joint as shown, with a common head and two tail members, slots 6 are twice the thickness of the main rib so as to accommodate the tongues from opposite tails. The flanges 2 of the head are received in cut-away slots 5 between the tongues. Glazing beads 8, 9 of resilient metal with one end taking over the edge of the panes and a hooked tip at the other engaging under a hook 3 at each edge of the main rib retain the panes against the lipped flanges 2. An angular strip 10 of rubber &c. may be inserted to protect the edge. A frame may be constructed entirely with T-joints the short projections left at corners being embedded in a casing in which the frame is set. Or external comers may be formed as single joints, e.g. by welding.
