Abstract
710,083. Friction clutches. SOUTHEND ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1951 [Sept. 18, 1950], No. 22896/50. Class 80 (2) [Also in Groups XXVII, XXVIII and XXXIII] A friction clutch for an outboard motor (see Group XXXIII) comprises a drum 92 secured to the engine crankshaft 29, and a disc 95 carrying a pair of friction shoes 93, 94 and secured to the transmission shaft 88. The shoes are pivoted on balls 98, 99, Fig. 9, and ;are pressed outwardly to engage the drum, against the action of a spring 105, by a cam 108 secured to an operating lever 110. The latter is actuated by a ball 112, mounted in a radial hole 114 of the transmmission shaft, which is pressed outwardly by the end 124 of a push rod 115 slidable in an axial bore of the transmission shaft and actuated through a collar 116 by a manually operated lever 121.
