Class 87 (2) A machine for making balls of dough or other plastic material comprises a vertical rotatable cylinder B disposed closely around a stationary track A that is substantially helical and is formed around a tubular passage E<1> open at the top and terminating at the bottom in a deflecting surface G' and lateral opening F which together form the commencement of the track, the surface G<1> defining with the cylinder wall a wedgeshaped space, whereby, the rotation of the cylinder causes shapeless material that has been fed into the top of the passage E<1> and follows on to the deflecting surface G' to be moved up the track and delivered at the end of the helix above the top of the cylinder. The cylinder is rotated by an electric motor D through a induction gear C.
