Abstract

A mould release emulsion comprises by weight from 1 to 75 per cent. of a liquid organopolysiloxane having from 1.9 to 3 methyl, ethyl and/or phenyl radicals per silicon atom, 2 to 20 per cent. of finely divided silica, 1 to 6 per cent. of one or more emulsifying agents selected from morpholine salts of fatty acids having 12 to 18 carbon atoms in the acid chain, acetates of n-primary amines having from 12 to 18 carbon atoms, mono-esters of polyethylene glycols and fatty acids having 12 to 18 carbon atoms in the acid chain, alkylated arylpolyether alcohols and alkali metal salts of alkylated arylpolyether sulphates, and from 20 to 90 per cent. of water. Silicas specified are diatomaceous earth, synthetic colloidal silicas, fumed silica, precipitated silicas, aerogels and xerogels. Emulsifying agents specified are morpholine-oleate and -stearate, n-dodecyl-, n-octadecyl-, n-octadecenyl- and n-octadecadienyl-amine acetates, hexaethyleneglycol mono-oleate. In one of the examples one of the emulsifying agents is formed in situ by adding an aqueous solution of morpholine and a sodium alkylated aryl polyethersulphate to a mixture of liquid dimethylpolysiloxane and oleic acid, the silica being subsequently dispersed in the resulting mixture.
