Abstract
Alumina is separated from aluminium bearing clays by the use of a flotation agent comprising a mixture of substantially equal portions of a neutralized sulphonate of an unsaturated fatty acid and a fatty acid frothing agent. The neutralized sulphonate may be that of castor oil (Turkey Red oil) and the fatty acid may be oleic, linoleic or stearic acid. The mixture may be dispersed in an aqueous medium in the ratio of one part of fatty acid to 8 X 105 parts of aqueous medium.
