Abstract

709,561. Fluid-actuated valves. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. Oct. 27, 1950 [Oct. 28, 1949], No. 26259/50. Class 135. [Also in Groups XIII, XVII and XXXII] A shock absorbing suspension in a shipping container (see Groups XVII and XXXII) includes metering valves regulating the flow of oil between the shock absorbing elements. The container may be pressurized and includes a spring loaded relief valve. A typical metering valve, Fig. 9, comprises a head 60 sliding on a fixed pin and having a peripheral clearance in a seating 61. A spring 62 rests on the seating 61 and resists depression of the valve by sudden flow of oil from the bellows 44 to the connecting line 47 between the elements. Oil may leak past the head through the clearance and holes 64. The valve permits free flow into the bellows. The relief valve, Fig. 15, comprises a resilient diaphragm 181 raised by pressure through ports 192 against a spring 187, air escaping through a central port 184.
