Abstract
708,950. Pyrometers. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. July 30, 1952 [July 31, 1951], No. 18111/51. Class 97(3) A radiant heat pyrometer comprises an inner pipe, an outer pipe surrounding and spaced from the inner pipe and having one end open and an apertured end wall across the other end, and a heat sensitive element positioned adjacent the end of the inner pipe remote from said end wall to receive heat rays passing through said aperture and along the inner pipe, openings being provided such that cooling gas blown through the inner pipe from an inlet adjacent the heat sensitive element, subsequently passes partly through said aperture and partly through the space between the two pipes and thence to the outside of the outer pipe. The pyrometer is shown in position in an aperture 2 in the wall 1 of a furnace and comprises a pipe 6 welded to a pipe 7 having one end wall 8 apertured at 9 to allow radiation from a hot body 3 to pass along the pipe 6 to a heat sensitive element 4 in a case 5 secured to the pipe 6. This case has an inlet 10 through which cooling air is passed, the air subsequently flowing through apertures 11 in pipe 6, apertures 12 in pipe 7, apertures 9 in the end wall of pipe 7 and between radial spokes 14 at the other end of pipe 7. The two pipes are formed as of stainless steel, the internal surface of pipe 6 may be blackened and the outer surface thereof may be highly polished or partly coated with heat insulating material.
