Abstract

1,124,563. Bell-type furnaces. SOC. ANON. HEURTEY. 28 April, 1966 [6 May, 1965; 27 Aug., 1965], No. 18614/66. Heading F4B. In a bell-type furnace in which metal coils 7 on a charge-carrying diffuser 6 are heated by gases circulated by a centrifugal fan 10 within a cover 5, the pressure side of the fan is connected by a duct 21 with a cooling coil 22 from which a duct 26 opens through a flattened nozzle 28 outside a rim surrounding the diffuser 6. Duct 26 is closed at the top by a cylindrical obturator 29 having a cap 31 and a curved deflector 32 facing a port 30 opening inwardly between two diffuser blades 9. The obturator is moved vertically by an hydraulic jack 37 having a rod 34 extending through a gas-tight gland 35. Nozzle 28 has a pair of central deflectors 38 directing the gas outwardly, and coil 22 is disposed in a water tank 23. A similar cooling system is disposed diametrically opposite that described. The lowermost cooling tube has a drain (45) associated with a dip tube (47) leading to a burner heating a bimetallic strip. Condensate collecting in drain (45) extinguishes the burner, operating an alarm or safety device through the bimetallic strip. A valve may be disposed in duct 26 near the base.
