Abstract
564,523. Gas-fired heat radiating elements. FALLON, J. March 12, 1943, No. 4034. [Class 51 (i)] A gas-fired heat radiating element adapted particularly for use as an immersion heater for liquid baths, crucibles and the like, comprises spaced inner and outer tubes a, d and a closure cap or thimble c, the inner endof the tube d being formed as a constricted nozzle d<1> to constitute a burner to project combustion products at high velocity into the cap c within which the direction of gas flow is reversed, the spent gases traversing the whole length of the space between the inner and, outer tubes, before escaping to the atmosphere. The nozzle d<1> is supplied with gas through a pipe f and with air entering at g and preheated, by the outflowing spent gases, white traversing the space between the inner tube d and a concentric corebuster e. The latter is built up of separate stepped rings, while the outer tube a, which may be formed of heatresisting metal, plumbago, or electrically fused alumina, and its insulating lining b are constructed of annular sections. The cap c is formed with a flared end c<1> which is retained in position by a cranked ring m bolted to a flange on the end of the outer tube a. A sight hole and lighting aperture o extends through the tube a and lining b to a point adjacent the nozzle d<1>.
