Abstract

708,666. Flexible-tanks &c. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES. Ltd. Oct. 29, 1952 [Oct. 31, 1951], No. 25447/51. Class 69 (1) Means for securing a fitting 7 to an apertured wall 1 or liner of a flexible container such as a liquid fuel tank, said wall or liner being substantially of rubber or rubber-like material, comprises a first annulus 2 of one or more layers of woven fabric material of non-absorbent fibres impregnated with rubber or rubber-like material, the outer area of this annulus being bonded between that portion of the wall or liner surrounding the aperture 4 and a second annulus of rubber or rubber-like material which overlaps the wall or liner and the outer area of the first annulus, the fitting 7 being secured solely to the inner areas 5 of the first annulus extending inwardly of said aperture. There may also be a self-sealing layer 9 of expanded natural rubber attached to the wall of the container and to the second annulus 6, and a third annulus 10 of impregnated woven fabric material, part of which is secured to the layer 9 and the remainder extending inwardly of the aperture for engagement by the fitting. Each annulus comprises a flat ring-like element of circular, rectangular or curvilinear shape, the layers of annulus 2 may decrease in area outwardly, and the wall of the container may be lightly reinforced with a woven material such as open weave nylon mesh.
