Abstract

708,491. Jet pulverizers. TITAN CO., Inc. June 18, 1952, No. 15357/52. Class 59 In apparatus for comminuting material comprising an endless closed jet mill having an inlet and outlet, means for introducing gas or vapour under pressure at the inlet, and means for entraining the material to be comminuted in the gas or vapour, suction means are provided for withdrawing from the mill the gas or vapour together with the material which has reached the desired state of subdivision. Material to be reduced is fed from a hopper 10 through a pipe 14 to a jet mill 11 comprising an endless tubular chamber 12, steam or gas under pressure entering the mill at 13 and 15. The reduced material is drawn from the chamber 12 through a pipe 16 and passes through a conduit 17 to a cyclone separator 18, the reduced material dropping down through a conduit 19 provided with a motor-driven air lock 24 and the gas being exhausted through a pipe 20. The exhaust steam is exhausted in a chamber 21. Suction or vacuum is applied to the exhaust from the separator 18 by means of a pump 22 driven by a motor 23 or by means of fans, blowers, or the like. The suction may be controlled by varying the speed of the motor 23. The suction may be applied to the mill alone, e.g. by placing a steam jet in the conduit 17 between the mill and the separator.
