708,302. Signs. CLAUDE-GENERAL NEON LIGHTS, Ltd., and SYMMONDS, E. T. Sept. 26, 1952 [Sept. 27, 1951], No. 22627/51. Class 3(2) In a box sign of the type provided with at least one panel of translucent material arranged to be illuminated from within the sign by means of one or more electric lamps, the body of the sign has substantially the shape of a wedge having plane rectangular sloping faces, equally inclined to a base and including between them an angle of between 22 degrees to 32 degrees, the base 1, the two ends 9 and at least the lower part of each sloping face being opaque and light diffusing on their inner surfaces but the greater part of at least one sloping face being translucent, means being provided for supporting within the body of the sign close to or parallel to the centre line of the base, one or more tubular electric lamps for providing a light source extending along not less than half the width of the sloping faces. The sign consists of a sheet metal channel shaped member 5 forming the base 1 and the two flanged metal end-plates 9 .are screwed to flanges 12 on the member 1. A. rectangular translucent sheet 2 of acrylic resin is bent to wedge shape and is fitted within the flanges 10 of the plates 9. The channel member 1 is provided with grooves 3 formed by welding metal strips 4 to the inner face of each longitudinal edge, these grooves accommodating the edges of the sheet 2. The apex of the sheet 2 is supported by a flange 13 attached to each end-plate 9. A tubular lamp 6 is supported in the base of the channel 1 and ventilation holes 16 are provided in the end plates and in the base. The sign may stand on feet attached to the channel 1 or be supported from eyes also carried by the channel 1. In a modification the acrylic sheet 2 only extends a short distance past the apex on one side and the gap between it and the channel 1 is filled by a detachable metal plate. The sheet 2 may have a design stencilled, painted or engraved on it.
