Abstract
707,920. Making tubes; welding by pressure. DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE AKT.-GES. Oct. 15, 1951 [Nov. 2, 1950], No. 24015/51. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XI] A tube is produced from strip material by progressively scraping the strip tube form and pressing together and welding the edges in a longitudinal seam, heating being provided by an inductor having branches which extend from the edges of the unformed strip to the welding point in proximity to and following the changing course of the edges. In an embodiment, flat strip 1 moving in the direction of the arrow 2, is formed by rollers (not shown) into tube form and an inductor is positioned so that its branches 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, which may have magnet yokes, are adjacent the edges of the strip 1 and follow their course to the point 5, where welding is effected, and meet in a bend 6. The branches 3, 3<SP>1</SP> may be parallel to the welded seam from the point 5 to the bend 6 which is spaced from the point 5 in the direction of strip feed. The spacing of the branches 3, 3<SP>1</SP> from the tube may be progressively increased from the welding point 5 to the bend 6. The ends 7, 7<SP>1</SP> of the inductor are bent across the top of the strip 1, but may be below, and are connected to a current source, The ends 7, 7<SP>1</SP> may have greater section than the branches 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and greater spacing from the tube strip 1.
