Abstract

PURPOSE: To form the circular pipe at an accurate shape and high speed by bending both edges in the feed direction of a strip plate to the radius of curvature equal to the radius of the circular pipe and forming the plate to a circular shape with the concave part being brought on the inner side.
CONSTITUTION: An edge former 2 consists of a pair of rotatable lower rolls 21 and a pair of rotatable upper rolls 24 engaging respectively therewith. Both edges 1A, 1B in the feed direction of a material strip plate 1 is bent to arc form of the radius of curvature equal to the radius R of the product circular pipe. First, the material strip plate 1 is admitted into the edge former 2, thence in a pipe former 3 it is formed to a pipe of a circular shape in section and in a forming die 4 it is finish formed finally to the outside diameter of the product circular pipe. Thereafter, the edges in the longitudinal direction of the strip plate are welded and joined by a welding device, whereby the circular pipe is formed.
