Class 39 (3) An arc welding electrode holder has an insulating tubular hand grip 10 surrounding a contact member 11 recessed at one end 14 to receive a current supply cable 15 and recessed at the other end 16 to form a socket receiving as a push fit an enlarged end 17 of an electrode holder comprising a rod 19 threaded at the outer end 20 to receive an internally threaded contact head 21. The end of the electrode 24 is held in a transverse bore 23 in the contact head 21 when the latter is screwed down on the rod 19. A transversely inserted tapering plug 12 retains the contact member 11 in the hand grip 10, which is internally fluted at 27 to allow air cooling and has a hand shield disc 13. The contact head 21 is circular or polygonal in cross section and may have several transverse bores of different sizes for different electrodes. The rod 18 is readily removable from the contact member, which is circular in cross section. A transverse slot 25 in the end of the enlarged part 17 receives a pin 26 extending transversely through the bore 16 of the contact member 11 so that the rod 19 may be rotated by the handle 10.
