Abstract

707,826. Tip-up seats. DAWSONS (SEATING), Ltd. June 16, 1953 [March 27, 1952], No. 7925/52. Class 52(5) Tip-up seats which are counter-weighted so as to assume automatically a raised position when vacated are provided with a counterweighting arrangement which is separate from the chair bracket and is capable of adjustment to vary the turning moment. As shown at each side of the underside of the seat 1 is mounted a main bracket having a boss 5 to serve as a bearing for the pivot 6 carried by the support 2 which is usually fixed to the floor. The bracket 3 is arcuate as shown and is provided with a recess at the part facing the undersurface of the seat 1 in which recess is slidable a counterweighting extension 4, the counterweight being indicated at 11. Screws 10 are provided for fixing the main bracket 3 and the extension 4 to the seat 1. The main bracket is provided with the usual lugs 7 to carry a rubber buffer 8 adapted to abut stops both in the in-use position and in the vacated position.
