Class 125 (2) In a bottling machine having a liquid reservoir 10 and filling heads adapted to be moved to and from the reservoir vertically, each head comprises a liquid outlet tube 34 which slides telescopically within a bearing member 47 having an outwardly-directed flange 38 and the reservoir has a depending neck also having an outwardly-directed flange 40, the flanges 38, 40 being embraced by a resilient sleeve 41 having inwardly-directed flanges 42. The abutting surfaces of the flanges 38, 40 are rounded to allow the outlet tube to be laterally tilted to coincide with a misplaced bottle. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), the flanges on the resilient sleeve engage grooves in the neck of the reservoir and the bearing member to hold these parts in vertically spaced relation. A vent 36 for displaced air is mounted in the outlet tube 34 and, at its lower end, has a valve head 46 co-operating with an apertured resilient valve diaphragm 35 held at its edge in the bottom of the outlet tube 34. When the latter is lowered to engage a bottle, the bottle neck pushes up the diaphragm to open the valve. The outlet tube is carried on an arm 23 detachably connected by a spring-loaded latch 26 to the bottom of a tubular element 18 which is reciprocated vertically, to lower and raise the filling head, by the engagement of a roller 21 with a rotated disc-cam (not shown).
