707,643. Securing paper and like bags ; opening packages. CELLOPHANE SOC. ANON. Nov. 1, 1950 [Nov. 8, 1949], No. 26637/50. Classes 94 (1) and 94 (2)] A bag made of sheet material such as paper, regenerated cellulose or the like, is provided with a sealing cover piece which has a transparent window portion of readily tearable material with a tearing strip secured beneath it, the cover piece being secured at one end to one face of the bag and adapted to be folded over the open mouth, and secured to the other face without directly sealing the edges of the mouth. The cover piece, which is made of pasteboard, thick paper, or opaque or transparent adhesive film-like material of a width equal to the width of the bag, comprises a strip-like part 3 connected by a window 5 of thin, transparent sheet material to a longer portion comprising two integral parts 4a, 4b of the same material as the portion 3, the portion 4a being secured by adhesive to one face of the bag while the remaining portions are left free until the bag is brought into use. The free portions constitute a sealing-flap which may be secured to the other face by adhesive on the portion 3. In the example the edges 2 at the mouth of the bag 1 are folded over together against the side to an extent such that they are overlapped by the window 5 when the coverpiece is folded over. A scored line X-Y may be provided between the parts 4a, 4b to facilitate the positioning of the cover-piece. Holes or perforations may be provided in the window to assist the tearing when the tab 7 of the strip 6 is pulled. The strip 6 consists of strong flexible material such as fabric.
