Abstract

Penicillin salts which are salts of bases of general formula <FORM:0707277/IV (b)/1> in which R1 and R2 each represent a phenyl, furyl or cyclohexyl radical; R3 and R4 each represent hydrogen or alkyl or R3 and R4 together with nitrogen form a heterocyclic ring system, and n represents zero, 1 or 2. The salts may be formed by reacting penicillin and the free base in an organic solvent. Alternatively a salt of penicillin, e.g. alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium salt is reacted with a salt of the base, e.g. hydrochloride in the presence of water or an aqueous organic solvent such as aqueous ethanol. Specified salts are the penicillin G salts of 1 : 1-diphenyl-3-aminopropane; 1 : 1 - diphenyl - 3 - piperidono - propane; 1 - phenyl - 1 - furyl - 3 - amino - propane; 1 : 1 - diphenyl - 1 - amino - methane; 1 - phenyl-1 - cyclohexyl - 3 - amino - propane; 1 : 1 - diphenyl - 3 - diethylamino - propane; p 1 : 1 - diphenyl - 3 - diethylamino - propane; and 1 : 1-diphenyl - 3 - morpholino - propane. The salts may be injected (see Group VI).ALSO:Therapeutic preparations comprise aqueous or oily suspensions of penicillin salts of bases of general formula <FORM:0707277/VI/1> in which R1 and R2 each represents a phenyl, furyl or cyclohexyl radical; R3 and R4 each represent hydrogen or alkyl or R3 and R4 together with nitrogen form a heterocyclic ring system; and n represents zero, 1 or 2 (see Group IV(b)). The suspended particles are sufficiently small to pass readily through an injection needle. Suitable oily vehicles are cottonseed oil and sesame oil. Specified salts are the penicillin G salts of 1:1-diphenyl-3-amino propane; 1:1-diphenyl-3-piperidino-propane; 1-phenyl-1-furyl-3-amino propane; 1:1-diphenyl-1-amino methane; 1-phenyl-1-cyclohexyl-3-amino propane; 1:1-diphenyl-3-diethylamino propane; 1:1-diphenyl-3-diethylamino propane; and 1:1-diphenyl-3-morpholino-propane.
