Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1113783/C2/1> where either (a) R is Ph or halophenyl, or is an aliphatic group optionally substituted by halogen, carboxy, alkoxy or alkoxycarbonyl, and R1 is 1-propylhexyl, 1-butylhexyl, 1-pentylhexyl, 1-ethylpentyl, 1-propylpentyl, 1-butylpentyl or 1-propylbutyl (all said alkyl groups in R1 being n-) or (b) R is Ph, halophenyl, alkyl, haloalkyl or -CR2=CR3R4 in which R2 is H or alkyl and both R3 and R4 are H or alkyl, or R3 is H and R4 is alkoxycarbonyl, and R1 is 1-ethyl-n-hexyl. These compounds are prepared by acylating the corresponding 4-alkyl-2,6-dinitrophenols; the latter are made by nitrating 4-alkylphenols and separating the desired isomers via their cyclohexylamine salts.ALSO:Fungicidal compounds have the formula <FORM:1113783/A5-A6/1> wherein either (a) R is Ph or halophenyl, or is an aliphatic group optionally substituted by halogen, carboxy, alkoxy or alkoxycarbonyl, and R1 is 1 - propylhexyl, 1 - butylhexyl, 1 - pentylhexyl, 1-ethylpentyl, 1-phopypentyl, 1-butylpentyl or 1 - propylbutyl (all said alkyl groups in R1 being n-), or (b) R is Ph, halophenyl, alkyl, haloalkyl or -CR2 = CR3R4 in which R2 is H or alkyl and both R3 and R4 are H or alky, or R3 is H and R4 is alkoxycarbonyl, and R1 is 1-ethyl-n-hexyl.
