Abstract
The invention comprises amidines of the formula <FORM:0904895/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 and R2 are hydrogen or hydrocarbon radicals, for example C1-4 alkyl radicals such as methyl or aryl radicals such as phenyl, and salts thereof, and their preparation by reacting a phenylsulphonyl chloride R1R2N.CH = N.C6H4.SO2Cl with ammonia. Examples describe the preparation of N:N-dimethyl- and N-methyl - N - phenyl-N1-p-sulphamoylphenylformamidine. N:N-Dimethyl- and N-methyl-N-phenyl-N1-p - chlorosulphonylphenylformamidine hydrochlorides, used as starting materials, are made by treating dimethyl formamide or N-methylformanilide respectively with thionyl chloride followed by sulphanilic acid. The Provisional Specification comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0904895/IV (b)/2> wherein R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen or hydrocarbon radicals or R2 and R3 together with the nitrogen form a heterocyclic ring, and R4 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon or heterocyclic group. Specification 904,893 is referred to.
