Abstract
706,762. Mine roof supports. DOLLERY & PALMER (PNEUMATIC TOOLS), Ltd., (Soc. d'Etudes et de Recherches Industrielles et Minieres (S.E.R.I.M.)). Jan. 11, 1949, No. 765/49. Class 20 (2). [Also in Group XXV] I-section. bars for mine roof support are connected end to end for pivotal movement in a vertical plane by connecting means at one side of the web so that the longitudinal axes of the bars are displaced from one another by an amount not exceeding the thickness of the web. In Fig. 3 plates 2 fixed to the sides of the webs 2' of the I-section bars are joined by a pin 3' passing through holes in the plates and secured by a ring 3a and split pin 4 connected by a chain 5. The bars may be aligned by a shim between the plates. In Fig. 5 a plate 8 is welded to the flanges at one end of each bar and carries a pin 3' adapted to pass through plates 11 fixed to each side of the web at the other end of another bar. In a further modification the plates 11 may be in the form of a U and a sliding bolt locks the parts together. In another modification a pair of plates welded to the flanges at each side of one end of a bar carry a pivot pin 3, Fig. 10, having a flattened part 19 to enable it to be passed into and locked in holes in plates 21 welded to the web of another bar. The pin on one connecting plate may have a radially directed stud which registers with an arcuate opening in the other plate when the bars are assembled which stud moves out of register with the opening when the bar is moved to working position and locks the parts.
